People are standing up and cheering during screenings of this picture, it's an odd thing to see.

Well, yeah, I mean, I want to go and sneak in and do one of those screenings. I saw the L.A. premiere screening and it had that. And some people said to me, "This is nothing!" I said, "You're kidding me," they were clapping after every number and everything! So that's great. There's nothing worse than being in a cinema, and you think a really funny lines' coming up in a minute, and then nothing. It's really disconcerting and sad, and you feel awful, but it's great and I think that's what the whole film does, it just lifts you up. I think musical comedy-- people who never would even think of buying a ticket to a theatre musical comedy or even going to a cinema and paying for a ticket will have a shock, I think. I think it's just uplifting and it's dark and sexy and dirty and funny, tongue in cheek, some fantastic numbers staged so beautifully, and I hope it brings it all back. |
