Question: You're also very musical. How does that fuel you and will you ever put out an album?

Well, I think, in the end, it made the tap dance easier that I could feel the internal rhythms in a beat, you know, I could syncopate and I could play with it with my body and eventually with my feet, once I realized I had feet connected to another part of me. It was a little difficult for me to figure out how to sing this because my voice is not like that. I come out of a rock and blues tradition. And to kind of get singing off of my throat, which is--a lot of contemporary singing is that way, and make it more of this big Broadway crooning kind of voice was a process I had to go through also. But also fun, actually my range increased, the strength of my voice, I could sing. You know, we'd be singing, some of these songs have a huge range to them, and when we were singing, although we did it to play back, we'd sing while we were doing it too. That's why it appears that sometimes we're actually singing it, because we were singing it along with the playback. But we could do 20, 30 takes of these difficult songs and we wouldn't lose our voices. That comes from back in the training that we had from this wonderful teacher up in Toronto. So that was a good allied thing to this. |
