Well, there's literally some stuff in "Unfaithful" that I did with my kid in the movie that came directly out of stuff that I did with my own kid. Clearly, I played that part differently because I have my own child. In terms of kind of freshness that a child, being around a mind like that, I'm sure. I'm sure that kind of grounds you as to a kind of simple straightforward way of playing, literally playing. And it is true thatif you lose that sense of play, the work gets kind of dry and labored. Acting is a spontaneous thing. You guys don't have to think about what you do, you just do it. If someone said, "Well, how do you do that?" I don't know, I guess you could think about it and come up with--but you just do it. You're writers, you're journalists, whatever, I'm an actor, I just do it. Now, when it doesn't work and it's just not happening, then you got to have some technique to fall back on to get you back on track so that it just happens again. But other than that, the technique doesn't mean anything whatsoever. It should have that same kind of spontaneity that a child has. |
